Context

Client Context

A gym operator wanted to solve a real member problem: uncertainty around how to use equipment correctly. Off-the-shelf training apps do not solve it — they sit on the member's phone, not next to the machine.

The idea: turn the Smart TVs next to each station into always-on, professional training guides. Members see explanations, form checks, and variations directly before the workout.

Challenge

Challenge

Smart TV browsers are notoriously fragmented. Hisense, Samsung Tizen, FireTV, LG WebOS — each vendor ships its own codec quirks, performance limits, and browser engine.

A vanilla React app would stutter or fail to load on half the devices. At the same time we needed 200+ exercise videos to play smoothly across all of them.

Solution

Solution

We built a full-stack platform on React and Tailwind CSS, optimized for low-power TV browsers: no state-management overhead, minimal render complexity, prefetched routes.

Content is managed centrally in PayloadCMS — 200+ exercises with variations, difficulty levels, and equipment mapping. Every new exercise runs through the video pipeline automatically.

The technical core: a Node.js backend on AWS that transcodes every video through FFmpeg into a universally compatible format. Resolution, codec, and bitrate are chosen so a 5-year-old Smart TV plays the video smoothly.

Result

Result

A market-ready platform with proven compatibility across Hisense, Samsung, FireTV, and more — no device class out of reach.

The gym now runs a consistent, professional in-station member experience. The content team can extend the library through the CMS without touching the codebase.
